In the summer, most of us are focused on obtaining glowy, sun-kissed skin. With facials, wrinkle relaxers, fillers, and medical grade skincare, that dewy glow is within reach. However, the days are getting colder and the nights are getting longer, so it’s time to chat about a few treatments to try this chilly season.
In addition to sweater weather and pumpkin carving, autumn also brings cooler weather that will leave you wanting to curl up indoors with a hot drink. It can also dry out your skin, making it cracked and itchy due to lack of humidity in the air.
Kybella
Kybella is a little bottle of miracle worker that is used to destroy any unwanted fat cells in the face, neck, and chin. This FDA approved non-surgical injection is filled with deoxycholic acid — a natural molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown of fat cells — which wipes out the fat cells in the treatment area.
While this treatment prevents those particular blasted fat cells from returning, it comes with a bit of minor swelling for 2-3 weeks, which makes it the perfect treatment for fall because you can heal under the protection of turtlenecks and scarves. This treatment will take roughly 30 minutes and can be done on a lunch break, with mild discomfort lasting only five minutes following the treatment.
Laser Treatments
So you’ve had your fun-in-the-sun this summer and created a bronze tan you’re proud to show off, but as that tan begins to fade when fall hits, you may start to notice that those freckles and age spots you had are much more prominent. No worries — our laser treatments are here for you!
Our Laser Genesis is a non-invasive laser treatment used to target sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, scarring, and large pores. Sun damage takes a decade to show up, so the sun spots you see are from your childhood, teenage years, or young adult life, depending on your age. Taking care of sun damage after those summer days by the pool is a great way to stay on top of further sun damage.
If getting rid of that unwanted hair is at the top of fall to-do list, we have you covered yet again with our laser hair removal treatments! Whether you’re interested in treating underarms, back, chest, legs, face, or brazilian, Outlast’s laser hair services allow you to toss the razor forever.
With every laser service, Outlast asks our clients to have zero sun exposure prior to any laser treatment — whether you’re leaving body hair or sun spots behind — to reduce the risk for hyperpigmentation. Keep in mind that post-laser skin is sensitive, and the heat from the laser doubled with the heat from the sun exposure can induce more trauma than what was intended.
Microneedling — aka, the Cadillac of spa treatments — is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that uses a microneedling pen to minimally puncture the skin, which triggers the body to fill these minuscule wounds by stimulating collagen production. This skin treatment will have you saying, “Ooh la la!” as you embark on your microneedling journey to rid your skin of fine lines and wrinkles, skin texture, and acne scarring.
Despite the fact that microneedling has little to no downtime, expect a pink or red face comparable to a sunburn after your treatment. Be sure to have a comfy spot picked out on the couch with your favorite snacks to veg out on — sun exposure is a no-go for at least a week post-treatment!
Chemical Peels
Whether your skincare routine is three or 27 products long, this spa service is a perfect addition to your regimen. Don’t worry, though —you only need it every 4-6 weeks! Chemical Peels are an effective option for any skin concerns you might have, such as:
• Tone
• Texture
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Breakouts
• Dark spots
When treated with a peel, you are continually exfoliating and renewing your skin while enhancing the cellular turnover. With no downtime, peels are easy to work into a hectic life schedule, but sun exposure should be minimal for a week post-treatment to reduce any further damage to this new and sensitive skin.
What Can I Do From Home?
What you do at home is just as important, if not more important, than what we do for you at Outlast. Having a reliable and healthy skincare routine and lifestyle is encouraged, but Outlast is here for you when you need to change it up a bit.
Autumn brings cooler weather that brings dry, cracked, and itchy skin due to lack of humidity in the air — yuck! But we have a few tips on how to stay hydrated during the season change.
Thicker Moisturizer
When the seasons change, so should your moisturizer. This one might sound obvious, but it’s important. We would recommend a few that Outlast uses every day:
• SkinBetter Science Trio Moisturizer
• Cerave
By including a thicker moisturizer in your daily routine in the fall, you’re keeping your skin smooth and trapping in hydration. It’s best to swap out your body lotions for heavier creams for an extra layer of hydration, but stick with thicker moisturizers for your face as you don’t want to clog your pores.
Cut Back On Exfoliating
No, we don’t want you to kick this step to the curb for the whole season! It’s important to exfoliate year-round to slough off dead skin that a cleanser just won’t remove. But, beware of over-exfoliating, as your skin is more prone to dryness, redness, and the windburn outside. Exfoliate 1-2 times a week instead of a summer routine of 3-4.
Continue Using Your SPF
If you’re not out at a pumpkin patch, building a snowman, or making a snow angel, is the SPF still important? The answer is still yes! Any time your skin is exposed to the sun for more than 30 minutes at a time, sunscreen is needed to protect against UV damage.
Sunscreen is just as important of a step in your fall and winter skincare regimens as it is in your summer one. Just because you might not be lying by the pool on your favorite raft, the sun is still out. Be sure to keep a stock of sunscreen for the winter by using some of our favorites:
• SkinBetter Science tone smart tinted compact SPF 68
• SkinBetter Science sheer sunscreen stick SPF 56
• SkinBetter Science sunscreen lotion SPF 70
Stay Hydrated
We know, total no-brainer! However, this is an easy one to forget when things like hot chocolate and pumpkin spice latte’s exist. Be sure you are giving your body the water it needs and drinking lots of it this season. The body needs at least two liters of water a day, and with fall stripping our skin of hydration, it’s important as ever to be sure we are giving our bodies the water it needs to keep our skin smooth and hydrated.
Fall is in full swing and here to stay awhile. Don’t hesitate to add a little something extra to your brisk season skincare routine! Book a free consult or schedule a treatment to reserve your spot to radiant, hydrated, and glowing skin year round!
